Mail App 2.0
A new version of the mail app – transformation and spectacular growth
Technologies
Context and Introduction
The mail application, a key element in the client's portfolio, was losing popularity over time. The main reasons were numerous bugs, a low rating in stores (1.3 on a five-point scale), and high maintenance costs for two separate native versions (Android and iOS). Negative user reviews further damaged the brand's reputation and hindered the introduction of new features.
We wanted to demonstrate how our team's takeover of the project and the implementation of version 2.0 (based on Flutter) radically improved the quality of the application, increased user satisfaction, and reduced development costs.
Problem Description
The biggest challenges included the low store rating (1.3), declining active user numbers (from around 20,000 monthly), and rising costs associated with maintaining two separate development teams. Negative reviews and the lack of modern UX/UI solutions caused users to switch to competitors, resulting in both financial and reputational losses for the client.

Proposed Solution
We opted for migration to Flutter to create a single, unified codebase for both Android and iOS. At the same time, we conducted a thorough UX audit, rewrote key functionalities, and implemented automated testing. As a result, we significantly reduced the number of bugs and ensured a consistent, modern user experience.
The implementation process was divided into stages – from analyzing and auditing the existing application, through prototyping, parallel development of the old and new versions, data migration, beta testing, to the official store launch and marketing campaign.
Results and Benefits
The store rating increased from 1.3 to 4.7 (averaged over the last three months). The application regained the trust of existing users and attracted new ones, with active accounts growing to nearly 100,000. The average engagement time increased by 65% (from 2 minutes 30 seconds to over 4 minutes), and the crash rate dropped from 5% to 0.5% thanks to automated testing.
From a business perspective, the biggest benefit was cost reduction – instead of two separate teams (Android, iOS), only one Flutter developer is needed. Other resources can be allocated to different projects, significantly improving the organization's efficiency.
Client Testimonial
“The new version of the application quickly restored user trust. The team demonstrated a high level of technical expertise and commitment to meeting our needs.”
Summary
A carefully planned and executed transformation was key to regaining user trust and increasing market competitiveness. Migration to Flutter, automated testing, and UX prioritization proved that focusing on quality and efficient development processes brings multifaceted benefits – from improving ratings and increasing active users to tangible operational savings.
